How to be N. 1 for Best graphic in a videogame competition using Pygame and paint!

Dafluffypotato have won a competition price for best graphic using pygame and paint! Yes, paint. So, this is a demonstration of how you do not need fancy tool to impress people, but it’s more the way you use this tools. Sometimes, also, the more limited the tools are (like paint) the more the job some people can get is good. I mean, think about the golden age of videogames in the eitghties, at that time the technology was really limited if we compare that with the one we have today, but… it’s very rare to find so many games that are still playable and fun after more than 40 years and you may ask why they are not able to make a simple and addictive game today if it’s so easy to make a 2d old style game even if you do not know how to program with all the tools that we have almost all for free. Well, the answer could be that it were all those limitations that made the people very engaged in finding a solution to push the hardware at their limit finding clever solutions that could make the do that step beyond the apparent edge of the tecnology that pushed the to create so many beautiful games with so little computer power. Maybe you could say that in the field of simple 2d casual games it is all been invented yet, so that is why no relevant games can be invented now in this type of “style”, but I do not think that the chances to make new interesting games in the 80ies style is gone, it’s just that all this predone assets that everybody uses and the lack of “limited” tools to work with, makes it easier to make a videogame from one side, but does not give enough challenges to push the creativity of the gamemakers so that the game can be really fun. Dafluffypotato used paint and reached the first place for graphic… so isn’t this a sign that the more limited the tool you use is, the more you can get out of it because you are going to use more of your ingenuiousity and less of the tools pre-prepared features. Sometimes less is more. Another thing we will underline is that Dafluffypotato uses our favourite language to make games, Python and that he does an excellent job even if many people says that python is not good for games, but he is showing that it is not true and that sometimes limitations (the speed of python) can be a challenge to find the right solution make a better job than other do with more fast languages! So, at the end, the difference is made by who and how a tool is used, rather than the tool itself.
